Fentress County Release Records
A Fentress County jail release is one event in a chain of custody. The Sheriff’s Department records the end of the county booking. That entry may mean bond, time served, sentence expiration, dismissal, probation, or a court-ordered release. It may instead show a handoff to the Tennessee Department of Correction, another county, the U.S. Marshals Service, or Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Only the first group clearly suggests a return to the community. A transfer closes the Fentress jail stay while custody continues elsewhere.
The strongest proof is the releasing custodian’s transaction. Read its date, time, authority, and destination together. A court order can explain the legal basis, yet paperwork, transport, warrants, or detainers may delay physical departure. “Released” also differs from “discharged.” Release can place a person on parole or probation, while discharge generally means that the relevant custody or supervision term ended.
- Time served
- A sentence satisfied by credited confinement. It does not erase the case.
- Parole
- Conditional community release before sentence expiration after Board action.
- Probation
- A court-ordered community sentence, sometimes after jail.
- Detainer
- Authority that lets another agency take custody.
- Expungement
- A court process that can remove qualifying records from public access.
How Fentress Inmates Leave Custody
The release reason is useful only when paired with the destination. Bond means the county jail released the person subject to the case and bond terms. It is not an acquittal. Probation and parole place a person in the community under legal conditions. A dismissal can end the charge that supported custody, but a separate hold may still block release. Transfer language is the clearest warning that a person did not go home.
| Recorded event | What it can mean | Next place to verify |
|---|---|---|
| Bond or recognizance | County custody ended under release terms | Sheriff transaction and court order |
| Time served or expiration | The applicable jail term was completed | Jail calculation and judgment |
| Probation or parole | Community supervision may follow | FOIL and TDOC supervision |
| Dismissal or court order | Judicial authority, subject to other holds | Clerk record plus jail entry |
| TDOC, federal, county, or ICE transfer | Local custody ended but custody continued | The receiving system |
A deceased status is not community reentry. The same care applies when a database uses a bare word such as “inactive.” Read detailed dates, location, and sentence fields before reaching a conclusion.
Fentress Release Record Fields
Fentress County does not publish a sample release detail online, so exact local field labels cannot be promised. A focused request should seek existing information rather than require staff to create a new report. The booking number and an extra identity fact reduce the risk of confusing people who share a name.
| Field to request | What it helps establish |
|---|---|
| Booking number and identity | The correct person and custody episode |
| Admission date and time | When the county stay began |
| Release date and time | When the sheriff recorded its end |
| Release authority or type | Bond, sentence, court action, supervision, or other basis |
| Case, charge, and bond references | The court matter tied to booking |
| Destination or receiving agency | Community release versus transfer |
| Booking photograph | The existing adult image, if releasable |
A court docket can show dismissal, plea, sentence, bond action, probation, revocation, or satisfaction. It does not always supply a physical release timestamp. Pair it with the sheriff transaction when timing matters. TDOC records use a different schema and may add TDOC ID, conviction county, offense, sentence expiration, and intended residence. Those state fields must not be projected onto the county jail’s unknown format.
Request Fentress County Release Records
The Tennessee Public Records Act generally allows Tennessee citizens to inspect local records unless an exception applies. Use the Fentress County request form. It asks about citizenship, inspection or copies, delivery, an advance estimate ceiling, and a detailed description. The county need not compile a new release list if it keeps only individual entries.
- Identify the person by full name, approximate booking date, and booking or case number when known.
- Ask for the booking and release sheet, including date, time, authority, destination, and photograph if releasable.
- Select inspection or copies and the delivery method. Ask for an estimate before copies if cost matters.
- Submit through the Public Records Coordinator and name the Sheriff’s Department as the likely custodian.
- If the response gives a transfer agency, continue with that agency’s locator or records office.

Under T.C.A. § 10-7-503, access should be prompt when practicable. Otherwise, the custodian generally has seven business days to provide access, deny the request in writing, or estimate when records will be ready. That is not a guarantee of final production within seven days. The county public-records policy explains reasonable copy costs and aggregation rules.
Fentress Release Access Limits
Public access is not absolute. T.C.A. § 10-7-504 and other laws protect confidential information. Active investigative material, personal identifiers, juvenile records, sealed files, expunged matters, and court restrictions require individual review. No official Fentress source states how long a released booking stays online because the sheriff publishes no release roster.
A missing name is not proof of release. It may reflect transfer, correction, expungement, or a system outside the county.
Expungement starts with the court in the county of arrest under T.C.A. § 40-32-101. Eligibility is case-specific. A completed order can be sent to the arresting agency, county jail, TDOC, and TBI for each agency’s process. Independent copies may persist, so an old third-party image does not override the official custodian.
Match Fentress Court Release Records
Fentress has a clear two-source workflow inside the Justice Center. The Sheriff’s Department at Suite 1 controls the physical custody record. The Circuit Court Clerk at Suite 126 keeps Circuit, Criminal, General Sessions, and Juvenile case records, though juvenile access is restricted. The sheriff’s FAQ sends questions about what happened in court to the clerk rather than asking jail staff to interpret a judgment.
The Fentress County Circuit Court Clerk can locate an existing judgment, dismissal, sentencing order, bond order, or docket entry. Call 931-879-7919 before travel because hours are not listed on the clerk page. State appellate matters may appear in Tennessee Public Case History, but that portal does not replace the local trial record.
The official clerk page shows how the local record office is organized.
Use the court record to explain the legal result. Use the sheriff transaction to establish when and where custody actually changed.
Why Fentress Release Records Disappear
TBI guidance says an expungement begins with the court in the county of arrest. Dismissal, nolle prosequi, no true bill, and not-guilty outcomes may qualify without cost, while diversion and qualifying convictions follow different rules. No blanket statement can replace review of the particular case and the current law.
When a completed order is issued, the court distributes it to the arresting agency, county jail, TDOC, and TBI as applicable. Each custodian then performs its part. That path explains why an official booking, release record, or photo can later vanish even if a third party kept an older copy. Do not work around a sealed, juvenile, or expunged record. For procedural help, the research identifies Legal Aid Society of Middle Tennessee and the Cumberlands and HELP4TN.
Note: An arrest image does not prove guilt, and an unofficial copy cannot establish the current status of an official Fentress County record.
Find Released Fentress County Inmates
Start with the last known custodian and approximate date. Fentress County has no verified official roster, history page, or recent-release feed. A local misdemeanor booking may never appear in TDOC FOIL, while a person transferred to state prison may remain searchable there long after leaving the county jail.
- Collect the full legal name, birth date, approximate admission date, and any known booking, case, TDOC, federal, or immigration number.
- Call the Fentress County Sheriff’s Department at 931-879-8142 and ask for the named booking’s release transaction and destination.
- Use TDOC FOIL for felony custody or supervision. Use BOP for federal custody and ODLS when an ICE transfer is supported.
- Ask the local court clerk for the matching disposition, sentence, or bond event.
- Register on the exact Tennessee VINE record for future custody-change notice.
- Request the underlying record when a portal result is unclear or needed as durable proof.
The 24-Hour Release List explains the daily-log fallback. Retain the agency, identifier, exact status label, event date, and retrieval time. Never treat “inactive,” “released,” “not in custody,” and “release eligible” as the same status.
TDOC Search for Fentress Releases
TDOC Felony Offender Information Lookup covers people currently or formerly in Tennessee felony custody or supervision. It may include a photo, status, location, offense, sentence, hearing, and release information. It is not a full list of everyone booked at the Fentress jail.
| FOIL route | Inputs and cautions |
|---|---|
| Name | Last name; optional first name, race, and alias match |
| TDOC ID | The TOMIS identifier distinguishes namesakes |
| State ID | SID is a separate state identifier |
| CAPTCHA | Case-sensitive entry in the live search |
Open a candidate only after matching identifiers. Parole and probation mean community supervision. Incarcerated status or a prison location means custody continues. Inactive can point to former-system status, but the detail and release information still need review. A Release Eligibility Date permits parole consideration under the governing law; it is not a promised exit.
The official FOIL search screen shows the available fields.
This state entry point covers felony records, not the county booking database.
Fentress Recent Release Feed Status
The reviewed sheriff site published no inmate lookup, roster, release archive, 24-hour list, 72-hour list, booking detail, photo gallery, or app link. No local refresh schedule, retention window, or display fields can be stated. Do not subtract yesterday’s third-party names from today’s to make a release list. Corrections, aliases, transfers, and failed feeds can also remove a name.
The official sheriff page documents the county contact route.
Ask whether an existing daily log covers exact dates. If none exists, request the individual entry instead of a custom compilation.
Fentress Supervision After Release
A released Fentress person may have no state supervision. Bond and completed misdemeanor sentences do not automatically enter TDOC. When FOIL shows parole or probation, TDOC Community Supervision District 21 is the field-office route. The Tennessee Board of Parole decides parole matters, while TDOC calculates dates and manages supervision.
No public Fentress absconder list was found. The sheriff will not give warrant, summons, or civil-paper information by phone, so a refused answer proves nothing about supervision. The Fentress parole and probation page explains official verification and the Clinton office.
Fentress Release Alerts and Registries
Tennessee VINE provides a person-specific custody check and future alert channel. Search the exact person, compare reporting agency and identifiers, then register on that record. An alert means one custodian reported a custody change. It cannot rule out transfer, another hold, or a later booking.
TBI registries are narrow, offense-based resources, not lists of all released inmates. Use the Sex Offender Registry only when the law requires the person to register. Its current address and status fields do not prove a historical jail release time.
Federal Transfers After Fentress Release
A county departure to USMS or ICE is a transfer, not proof that the person went home. The BOP Inmate Locator covers federal inmates from 1982 onward and may show a past release date or Released status. A future date is projected, while In Transit describes custody movement. Even a past BOP release does not settle whether supervised release, state custody, ICE custody, or a later arrest followed.
ICE ODLS accepts an A-number with country of birth or biographical details. Released-from-ICE results remain visible for only 60 days, and minors are excluded. A later no-result is inconclusive. USMS has no public released-prisoner locator, so the federal court record, BOP after commitment, and a scoped agency request form the evidence chain.
The federal locator entry shows the search routes for former federal custody.
A BOP result proves only what it states about BOP custody. Follow a supported transfer into the receiving system.
Getting Home After Fentress Release
Ride Upper Cumberland offers door-to-door public transportation across the region, including Fentress County. Its published in-county fare is $2 one way with exact change. Scheduling and eligibility use 1-833-828-7477. The Jamestown office is at 308 Main Street South, Suite 101, and its local number is 931-879-8040.
This service is not a jail discharge shuttle, and immediate pickup is not promised. A rider or family member must confirm timing. Release processing can also be delayed by paperwork or a receiving agency. Make plans only after the jail confirms the event and the transit provider accepts the trip.
Which Fentress Release Ride Service
The similarly named Pick-Up same-day transit app does not serve Fentress. Its stated coverage is Cumberland and Putnam Counties. Fentress riders use the broader Ride Upper Cumberland scheduling channel instead. This distinction prevents a person waiting after release from relying on an app that does not cover the county.
No official source gives a standard jail release hour, exit, property-return procedure, or weekend practice. Sheriff lobby hours are office-access hours, not release-processing times. Ask the jail about the individual event, then coordinate transport based on the confirmed time and location.
Fentress Released or Still Held
Each system answers a limited question. Use the source aligned with the last custodian, then follow any transfer destination.
| System | Still in custody | After release |
|---|---|---|
| Fentress jail | Confirm current booking with sheriff | Request county release transaction |
| TDOC FOIL | Incarcerated status and location | Parole, probation, inactive, or release data |
| Tennessee VINE | Reporting-agency custody status | Release event or notice, subject to feed timing |
| Federal BOP | Institution or in-transit data | Past release date or Released status |
| ICE ODLS | Current detention result | Released-from-ICE records for 60 days |
Can a dismissal prove physical release? It proves a judicial result. The jail transaction is still needed to rule out processing delays or another hold.
Fentress Release Systems and Facilities
The local jail is the county source. Other entries are systems that may accept a transfer, hold a person sentenced from Fentress, or supervise someone after incarceration.
